Meet Rayel Juniperus, a Dryad of the Great Plattsurg Forest. Dryads are the race of people who fled to the trees during the GreatFire. Being high enough in the treetops, they were able to escape many of the flames that devoured the landscape, working tirelessly to keep their forests alive. After the GreatFire, when the ColdHeat ravaged the land, the dryads were safe amongst the leaves, the green foliage protecting them from the radioactive dust that fell from the sky.

The dryads built their homes in the trees, using the wood from fallen oaks and redwoods to build their communities. With arched walkways stretching from tree to tree, the dryads were able to move throughout the forest without ever having to set their feet on the contaminated ground. They build great farms in the treetops and brought every animal they could find into their leafy embrace. They made medicines from plants and herbs, and quickly became expert healers. With their poisonous arrows, they drove the huge predators that roamed the ground and treetops from their lands, making the forest again safe for people.

When the clouds overhead parted, and the LongNight was finally over, the dryads found every forest had one tree that towered over all the others; it was the Tree of Life. The leaders of each forest community were bonded to these trees, making them the Hamadryad, or leader of their communities. The dryads took on the task, led by their Hamadryads, to heal the world by planting trees and shrubs and vegetables and grass all across the land. They would bring the world back from the brink of destruction, allowing the world, now called Phoenix, to flourish.
