Lost on an Island
Chapter 1
BOOM! BAM! CRASH! The door was locked so we couldn’t get out. We were at the bottom of the boat and water was spraying in so much that we had to swim because we couldn’t touch the floor. My dad found an ax and broke the door open.
My whole family looked for the crew and the captain but it looked like we hit something. Everybody else in the boat either jumped off the boat into the water or got in another boat and sailed away and forgot about us!
My dad said that we were shipwrecked and needed to find some land! We looked around on the boat for supplies to make another boat to sail us to some land and carry all of our stuff. It took a few hours to sail to some land. Finally, we could see a little bit of land. Once we got to shore we all took a nap on the sand.
Hi, my name is Katie and I have a little brother named Timmy and a mom and a dad. The whole story is about our family taking a vacation to my grandfather’s house and we had to take a boat. But one day we all felt a big BUMP! Suddenly water came spraying in and we had to get out!
That’s how we ended up here on this Island. I was looking for some food and sticks and leaves for some shelter.
Before morning I found a few coconuts and some fruit to have for breakfast. After we were done eating mom said, “You can go look around if you want.”
I was wandering around looking for some more food. “I want to go look around too?!” exclaimed Timmy.
Mom said, “Ok , you can look around but stay close to the campfire. I don’t want you to get lost!”
When I was looking around I spotted a baby elephant and its mother! They were both so adorable! I was walking closer, and closer, and closer until they both started running away! I heard a deep growl from the trees. It was a tiger! The tiger was getting closer and I was backing up and started to run! I ran back to the campsite and needed some water.
“What’s the hurry?” asked my mom.
“Nothing, I just wanted to see how long it would take for me to run back,” I replied. I was clearly lying, but my mom fell for it. My mom asked, “What do you need all of the food for?”
“I just wanted to have some extra,” I said.
I went back into the forest for a little while and found some tree branches to make a little fort with, so we didn’t have to sleep under a blanket. Before night I made the shelter and I started to make some food with my mom when I heard BANG!
“Oh no, there is going to be a thunderstorm!” my mom shouted. We all gathered under the tent, but it was a little tight! After the storm, we all ate dinner and drifted off to sleep.
The next morning I jumped out of bed and gathered more food. For breakfast I had eggs and some berries I found in the forest. “AHHHH CHOO!” I sneezed.
“I hope they aren’t poisonous berries!” said Timmy.
“I think so,” I said in a mumble.
“Where did you get them anyway?” asked my mom.
”In the forest by a cotton tree.” I said in a mumble again.
“Those berries are poisonous, I saw them when I was gathering wood for the fire and knew they were poisonous,” she said.
My mom said that my sneezing will go away if I drink lots of coconut water for a week. Then I started to gather coconuts, as I was running into the forest. When I came back I started to poke a hole in the coconut, so I could drink the water inside. “Every day for a week, drink all the water in one coconut and repeat that for the one week,” she said.
After I drank all of the coconut water I felt a little better.
“Can I go swimming in the ocean?” I asked.
“Sure, but don’t go too deep!” she said. I took off my clothes and hopped in the blue ocean water.
”Ohhh!, this is cold!” I shouted with surprise. When I was swimming I could see all of the beauty of the water and could see right through it!
It was so beautiful that my eyes were sparkling! ”OUCH!” I screamed. “I think I stepped on a starfish!” I said.
After I was done swimming I decided to go on a little walk around the beach and gather some more coconuts, food, and wood for the campfire. When I was on my little walk I tried to not pick the poisonous berries again. It has been officially three days on this island and we are still alive!
My family has survived on coconuts, wild berries, apples, snakes, and birds. The snakes and birds weren’t very good but they were okay because they were filling and would keep me alive.
Chapter 2
“Dad, can I sail the boat back to the shipwrecked boat so I can go look around?” I asked.
“Okay, but don’t get lost and come back in a few hours,” he said, while I already started to get the boat ready. It took me a few hours to sail there, but when I did it looked different than it was before.
Everything was in a different place probably because there was a storm and the waves were crashing into the broken-down boat. I tied a rope around the boat so it would not float away out in the open. The boat was more destroyed than we left it. I was wanting to go back when I saw another boat out far away in the water! “Hey, over here!” I screamed at the big ship.
The boat didn’t look like it was going this way, it looked like it was going the other way. “Oh, darn it!” I shouted. I thought that it would be able to help me and my family. “I should probably get back, and I’m so hungry that I could eat a horse!” I said. As I started to row myself back, I was wondering if we would see any other boats and if we would have to live on the island forever!
When I returned I went back into the forest and got some more food and watched the stars pop out into the sky.
The following day I saw something out in the distance on the water. “MOM, MOM!” I shouted with excitement. “I see a boat out in the water!”
“Is it really?” she asked.
“Can I go out in the water to go see?!”
“OK, but be right back and be careful!” she said while I was already getting the boat.
As I was flying through the water it didn’t look like a boat anymore. And guess what! It was not even a boat, it was an old piece of wood from the shipwrecked boat! I was so disappointed! All I wanted to do was go home.
When I got back from exploring I saw a little monkey in the distance out in the forest. I went to go see more when the monkey was sitting on a tree. The tree was really big and an idea shot into my head! That idea was perfect! I ran to find mom as fast as I could and said, “MOM, MOM! I have the greatest idea of all ideas! I found a tree that would be great to build a treehouse to live in so we don’t have to worry about the tigers and other animals!” I said really loud.
“Ok, ok I’m listening,” she said.
Chapter 3
“Come on, I want to show you where I want to build the treehouse,” I said with a smile on my face. “Ok wait a minute, when did I tell you that you could build a treehouse in the middle of the forest!” she yelled. After a little while we talked it out and my mom agreed to build a treehouse! As I started to gather wood and some other things for the treehouse I heard a light rustling sound. What would it be? I walked slowly to the rustling bush. Something popped out! It was a person I think? I wasn’t sure at once but I was very interested.
“Hi, my name is Katie. What’s your name?” “I don’t know but all I know is that my mom left me here when I was a baby.” she said.“Oh, I’m so sorry I didn’t know! I got here not that long ago but I need help with something. Would you like to help?” I said as I was very concerned.” Ok, but what do you need help with? I’m very good at climbing!” the mystery girl said.”If you had a name what would you want it to be?” I asked. “Well, I don’t know, maybe Zoe?” “Ok, Zoe let’s go see what my idea is!” I said, tugging her hand and flowing towards me. I showed Zoe my idea and where I wanted to be. I also told mom about Zoe and how she got here.”YES!” I said with excitement.”What, why did you say yes?” Zoe asked.”Because you get to help me and my little brother Timmy and my dad!” I said. We went to the forest to go get some wood and other things for the treehouse. What I was planning was big.
I decided to make some stairs so we don’t have to be afraid of tigers and other animals. This is going to take forever! I thought to myself but it didn’t. After a few days of hard work, we finally got done. Zoe and I wrapped a piece of cloth around mom so then she will not see our amazing new house to live in.” What’s this all about?” said mom. “You’ll see!” I said excitedly. I carefully walked mom to where we will be living and took off the cloth wrapped around her eyes “Oh my gosh! This is what you have been working on all this time!?” She screamed.” Timmy, me, and dad have been working on this FOREVER!” I said with excitement.
Chapter 4
After a few days, my family and I started to settle in and put everything in the new treehouse. We moved everything we could in the house so it would be safe. I asked my dad if it would be ok to go out to the water to go check it out and also try to go fishing. I got the boat ready and sailed out to the ocean. When I got ready to fish I saw something out in the distance.
I looked and it was a boat and it was coming this way! But something felt odd about this boat. The boat did not look like it was a normal boat, it was a pirate boat! The boat was coming closer and closer until I could see the men on it. I decided to start rowing. I rowed and rowed until I could see the island. I started to slow down and rest. I was almost there. I saw the place where I made the treehouse and started to row again but even faster.
When I got there I went to tell everybody the bad news. “Everybody! , Everybody! Listen up! There is a ship headed this way but it’s not just a ship it’s a pirate ship and we need to hide because they have prisoners and I don’t want any of you to become a prisoner too.” We all headed to a big hill including Zoe and we hid there until we were safe. ”How long are we going to stay hidden?” asked Timmy. “I don’t know but I will take a look to see if they’re gone,” I said in a scared voice. I looked up over the big hill and saw the pirates looking around. I also saw two prisoners tied up against a rock. “Maybe we should try to save the prisoners?” I said. Zoe and I sneaked down to where the prisoners were and we tried to untie them quickly so the pirates would not see us. ”I’m so glad that you guys saved us!” said the prisoners.
Chapter 5
Right after we took the pirate’s prisoners we had to get away fast because the pirates saw that they were gone! Me, Zoe, and the prisoners all ran as fast as we could so they would not catch us. We all hid and were safe. Soon the pirates left and we never saw them again.
“What are your names?” I asked the prisoners. “Our names are Maddie and Sue.” they both said quietly. I also asked, “How did you end up being the pirate’s prisoners?” “Sue and I were playing catch and Sue threw the ball the wrong way. I thought it went in a big boat so I took a look because we wanted to keep playing. Suddenly a pirate saw us and he made us his prisoners.” they said. “Wow, that’s a pretty cool story!” I shouted.
After they explained their exciting story, my family and I got the extra room ready so Maggie and Sue could spend the night.
The next day Zoe, Maggie, Sue, and I went into the forest to look around and explore. We all found something cool. I found some berries to take back to the house to eat. Zoe found an apple to also eat later. Maggie and Sue both found a river full of fresh water and they both filled up two bottles of water to also take back to the treehouse.
Chapter 6
We all had a great time walking around the forest. You never know what you’ll find. We all headed home and brought all of our cool stuff with us. It’s been a few days now and still no sign of any more boats. Every day Zoe and I go out to the water a few miles away and we both look for boats and also go fishing. We do that EVERY day!
One day Zoe and I went out to go looking for boats and I spotted something in the water. It did not look like a pirate boat, it looked like a big boat! Zoe and I started to row the boat as fast as we could! Every row kept going Faster and Faster and Faster. When we finally got there we ran to go tell everybody the good news! “Everybody! Everybody! Zoe and I both saw a ship that is coming this way to save us!” we shouted.
We all raced to the sand and looked out to the water to see. We all saw it. A ship was coming to save us! Everybody cheered and waited for them to come closer to get a better look. When they finally got to the island we ran to the boat and shouted “Where here! Help us! Where right here!” A strange man came out of the big ship. As he stepped out, Maggie and Sue ran to hug him. “Where did you two go?” he asked.
“We were just playing catch and Sue threw the ball into a ship on accident. The pirate got mad at us so we became his prisoners!” they both said.
They eventually told us that their grandpa was a fisherman and fished for fish in the ocean and also had his own boat. We asked him to spend the night at our place and then they could head home. “I’m going to miss you guys! We had a great time together.” I said sadly.
“Ya, we’re going to miss you guys too,” they said, also very sad. “Hey! Wait! Before you leave I have something I want to tell you!” I shouted. “What is it?” she asked. “I’ve been wanting to leave this island and don’t know what I would do if you left. So can I please come with you back to your place so my family and I can go home?” I asked. “Of course, you can!” the man shouted. Then we ALL packed up to go home. That next day we headed off into the great blue sea back home.
